One ordinary evening in South Philadelphia turned into a moment of urgent compassion when a woman’s walk to her car uncovered something heartbreaking — and potentially life-saving. Eight newborn puppies, only hours old and still with their umbilical cords attached, were found abandoned inside a bag in a shopping cart outside a Target store on Mifflin Street.
The puppies were discovered by a shopper who heard faint crying coming from the bag. Heart pounding and instincts kicking in, she opened it to find the fragile little pups — so young they hadn’t even opened their eyes yet and already struggling from cold weather and exposure. Recognizing that time was critical, she didn’t hesitate: she wrapped them up and brought them directly to the ACCT Philly animal shelter.
