On May 3, 2025, the Sharonville Convention Center transformed into a Derby Day dream. The 23rd Annual Fur Ball Gala, hosted by SPCA Cincinnati, wasn’t just a night of elegance—it was a lifeline for countless animals in need.
Guests donned their finest Derby attire, sipping mint juleps and engaging in spirited bidding wars during silent auctions. But beneath the glamour lay a deeper purpose: raising funds to support the SPCA’s mission of rescuing and rehoming animals.
The results were nothing short of astounding. A record-breaking $703,640 was raised, directly impacting the lives of animals across Greater Cincinnati. In fact, 11 dogs and 17 cats found their forever homes that very weekend.
Chris Seelbach, CEO of SPCA Cincinnati, emphasized the importance of these funds:
“The money we raise ensures that when we get a call about an injured or stray animal, we can say ‘yes’ and provide the necessary care.”

The evening also honored the retirement of Mike Retzlaff, a dedicated leader who served the organization for nearly three decades. His legacy continues to inspire the SPCA’s ongoing efforts.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to the event’s sponsors, including Presenting Sponsor IAMS™, Platinum Sponsors The Alpaugh Family Foundation, Gorilla Glue, and Swiffer, as well as Gala Production Sponsor Prestige AV. Their support made the night possible.
The Fur Ball Gala stands as a testament to what a community can achieve when united by compassion. It’s more than an event— it’s a movement to give every animal a chance at a better life.
