Puppies are curious about absolutely everything.

A new toy? Investigate it.

A strange sound? Investigate it.

Something rolling across the floor that looks completely harmless? Apparently, prepare for battle.

That’s exactly what happened when Bruce, an adorable German Shepherd puppy, encountered a blueberry for the very first time.

And judging by his reaction, this tiny piece of fruit had committed a serious offense.

Bruce spotted the blueberry sitting on the floor and immediately became fascinated. But instead of treating it like a snack, he seemed convinced that he had discovered a mysterious little creature that needed to be defeated.

Every time Bruce touched the blueberry, it rolled away.

That only made things more confusing.

The puppy stared at it, pawed at it and appeared increasingly suspicious of the strange, perfectly round object that refused to stay where he put it.

For Bruce, this wasn’t lunchtime.

It was an investigation.

The Blueberry Wasn’t Going Anywhere

One of the funniest things about puppies is watching them experience ordinary objects for the first time.

They don’t know what something is supposed to do. They simply react to what they see.

And Bruce clearly couldn’t understand why this tiny blue ball kept moving every time he touched it.

The blueberry was smooth.

It was small.

It rolled.

Clearly, something was going on.

His dramatic reaction is especially funny because blueberries are actually considered a safe occasional treat for dogs. They’re packed with nutrients including fiber, vitamins and antioxidants, and their small size can make them convenient as training treats.

Bruce just hadn’t figured that part out yet.

From Tiny Enemy To Tasty Snack?

Although the video doesn’t show Bruce actually eating the blueberry, there’s a good chance his opinion eventually changed.

Once a puppy realizes that something is edible — and tasty — an object that once seemed suspicious can suddenly become very interesting.

Of course, blueberries should still be offered in moderation. Too many can contribute excess sugar to a dog’s diet, and introducing any new food should be done gradually.

If your dog isn’t a fan of the whole berry, there are simple ways to make it easier to eat.

You can crush the blueberry before offering it, mix a small amount into your dog’s regular food or combine it with plain Greek yogurt to make a refreshing frozen treat.

But Bruce’s first encounter probably wasn’t about nutrition.

It was about figuring out what on earth that little blue thing was.

Just Another Day Of Puppy Discoveries

Bruce is still young, which means he’s experiencing a world full of firsts.

Every new smell, sound, object and food gives him another opportunity to investigate — sometimes with adorable results.

And that’s part of what makes puppyhood so entertaining.

To us, a blueberry is just a blueberry.

To Bruce, it was apparently a tiny, suspicious creature with a mind of its own.

Eventually, he may decide that blueberries belong in the snack category rather than the enemy category.

Until then, though, there’s something undeniably hilarious about watching a German Shepherd puppy wage an epic battle against a piece of fruit.
