There are few things better than settling down with a good book after a long day.

A quiet spot. A comfortable position. A few uninterrupted minutes to disappear into another world.

Unless, of course, you happen to have a Pug puppy who has decided that your attention belongs to him.

That’s exactly what happened to one woman when her adorable pup, Sir Arthur, spotted her relaxing with a book.

Instead of patiently waiting for her to finish a chapter, the little dog came up with a much more effective strategy.

He simply climbed onto her lap—and planted himself directly on top of the book.

Problem solved.

Sir Arthur’s hilarious reaction was captured in a video shared on TikTok, where the determined Pug made it very clear that he wasn’t interested in competing with a stack of printed pages for his mom’s attention.

He wanted the spotlight.

And he wasn’t going to settle for second place.

The video begins with Sir Arthur noticing his mom lying down with her book.

Rather than letting her continue reading peacefully, the puppy climbs onto her lap and settles right where he knows he’ll be impossible to ignore.

The book is suddenly no longer accessible.

But Sir Arthur doesn’t seem particularly concerned about that.

He looks perfectly comfortable as he makes himself at home, apparently quite pleased with his decision to turn himself into a very cute bookmark.

It’s the kind of behavior that will be instantly familiar to anyone who has ever tried to read, work, use a laptop, or simply focus on something while living with a dog.

Dogs have an uncanny ability to recognize exactly when their humans are occupied.

And sometimes, that’s precisely when they decide they need attention.

For Sir Arthur, the strategy is especially fitting for his breed.

Pugs are known for being playful, affectionate, and highly social dogs. They tend to enjoy spending time with their people and often love being at the center of whatever is happening around them.

Sir Arthur certainly seems to have embraced that personality.

He doesn’t need to bark.

He doesn’t need to paw at the book.

He doesn’t even need to make a dramatic fuss.

He simply positions his adorable little body between Mom and the thing competing for her attention.

And suddenly, reading time becomes cuddle time.

Of course, it’s impossible to know exactly what Sir Arthur was thinking. Maybe he genuinely wanted some affection. Maybe he was curious about what Mom was doing.

Or perhaps he simply knew that sitting directly on the book was the fastest way to make sure she looked at him.

Whatever his reasoning, his plan worked.

The book could wait.

Sir Arthur clearly could not.

And that’s one of the charming things about living with a dog. They have a way of turning ordinary moments into memories, often without doing anything particularly complicated.

A puppy climbing onto someone’s lap might seem like a tiny event.

But when that puppy has a determined expression, a cute face, and absolutely no respect for reading time, it becomes something worth capturing on camera.

For Sir Arthur, there was only one priority that evening.

Mom’s attention.

And judging by his strategy, he wasn’t taking any chances.

After all, why compete with a book when you can simply sit on it?

Sometimes, the cutest way to say “Put that down and cuddle me” doesn’t require words at all.

It just requires one very determined Pug puppy.
