Some dogs are perfectly happy staying in their own backyard. Others seem convinced that the grass is always greener — especially when that grass belongs to the neighbors.
Zeppole, a Golden Retriever with a serious sense of adventure, falls firmly into the second category.
This clever pup has apparently made a habit of escaping his own yard and paying visits to the neighbors. And thanks to a nearby security camera, everyone now gets a front-row seat to his hilarious little adventures.
A video captured from the neighbor’s perspective shows Zeppole approaching the fence with the confidence of a dog who knows exactly what he’s doing.
Rather than simply standing there and waiting for someone to let him through, he has figured out his own way over.
The Golden Retriever climbs over the fence at a particular spot, carefully making his way down into a patch of brush on the other side.
And once he lands?
Mission accomplished.
Zeppole immediately gets to the real reason behind his escape: enjoying the neighbor’s yard.
Apparently, the forbidden side of the fence has plenty to offer.
The adventurous Golden can be seen helping himself to some grass, turning his unauthorized visit into something resembling an all-you-can-eat salad bar.
But his neighborhood excursions aren’t just about the snacks.
Zeppole has also developed a particular fondness for the neighbors’ pool.
Over time, he has become something of a familiar face around the neighborhood, especially to the people who have a pool he can access.
For Zeppole, sneaking over seems to be the perfect combination of adventure, relaxation and fun. Why settle for the same old backyard when there is an entire neighborhood waiting to be explored?
Luckily for this mischievous Golden, his neighbors don’t seem particularly bothered by his visits.
In fact, they appear to have embraced their furry little trespasser, making his escapades even more entertaining.
It is easy to understand why.
Golden Retrievers are known for being friendly, playful and curious, and Zeppole seems to have taken all three qualities to the extreme.
He isn’t sneaking around because he’s trying to cause trouble. He simply seems determined to investigate every interesting thing within reach.
Still, there is one important lesson hidden beneath all the laughs.
Not every fence-jumping dog is as fortunate as Zeppole.
A dog that escapes into another yard could encounter traffic, unfamiliar animals, unsafe objects or a swimming pool without an easy way out.
Even a confident swimmer can get into trouble around water.
For dogs that repeatedly try to escape, owners can consider making fences taller, adding a second barrier or installing physical deterrents that make climbing more difficult.
Providing plenty of exercise, enrichment and supervised outdoor time can also help satisfy a dog’s natural desire to explore.
As for Zeppole, he seems to have turned neighborhood mischief into an art form.
With his carefully planned fence escape, love of grass and apparent obsession with swimming pools, this Golden Retriever has certainly earned his reputation as the neighborhood’s most adorable repeat offender.
And judging by the camera footage, he has absolutely no regrets.
