You know you’ve seen an unusually fluffy dog when you have to look twice just to figure out where his face is.

Now imagine looking over and seeing what appears to be a giant wig lying peacefully in a dog bed.

Except that wig is breathing.

And it has a mouth.

That’s exactly the kind of double take one extra-fluffy Shih-Tzu has been giving people online after being caught sleeping flat on his back.

With his voluminous coat spreading around him, the little dog looks less like a traditional pup and more like a perfectly placed hairpiece.

And honestly? It’s hard not to laugh.

A Dog So Fluffy, His Face Nearly Disappears

The adorable Shih-Tzu’s identity hasn’t been revealed, but his unusual sleeping position has certainly caught people’s attention.

In the viral clip shared by Parade Pets, the dog is stretched out on his back, looking completely comfortable as he enjoys what appears to be a seriously satisfying nap.

His thick fur spreads around him in every direction, making it surprisingly difficult to identify him at first glance.

Viewers couldn’t resist comparing his fluffy appearance to a wig. Others thought he resembled Chewbacca, the famously shaggy character from Star Wars.

But the funniest detail might be how little effort this dog seems to be making.

He’s not performing tricks. He’s not trying to entertain anyone. He’s simply catching up on his beauty sleep—and accidentally becoming an internet sensation in the process.

If you’ve ever watched your own dog sleep in a ridiculous position, you already know how entertaining these little moments can be.

Dogs have a special talent for making ordinary things hilarious without even trying.

Why Do Some Dogs Sleep on Their Backs?

As funny as this Shih-Tzu looks, sleeping on the back can be perfectly normal canine behavior.

One possible explanation is comfort. Just like people, dogs have preferred sleeping positions, and some find lying on their backs especially relaxing.

The position can also indicate that a dog feels safe in its surroundings.

Because lying belly-up exposes vulnerable areas, a relaxed dog may be comfortable enough to rest this way without feeling the need to stay ready for action.

Temperature is another possible factor. A dog’s belly has less fur than much of its body, so exposing that area can help release heat.

Of course, every dog is different. Some prefer curling into a tight ball, while others stretch out like they own the entire bed.

And then there are dogs like this fluffy Shih-Tzu, who seem determined to make their owners wonder whether they’re looking at a pet or a discarded wig.

A relaxed sleeping position is generally nothing to worry about when the dog otherwise appears comfortable and healthy.

If a dog’s breathing becomes labored or the position accompanies signs of distress, however, veterinary advice is appropriate.

The Best Part of Having a Dog

It’s easy to understand why moments like this spread so quickly online.

Dogs don’t need expensive toys, elaborate costumes, or perfectly planned photo shoots to make us smile.

Sometimes, all they have to do is fall asleep in the strangest possible position.

One minute, you’re going about your day. The next, you’re staring at a furry little creature who looks like he belongs on a salon shelf.

And somehow, that tiny moment can make everything feel a little lighter.

This Shih-Tzu may never know that his fluffy sleeping style has made people laugh, but he has certainly delivered a memorable dose of canine comedy.

So the next time you find your dog sleeping upside down, sprawled across the couch, or twisted into a position that seems physically impossible, take a picture.

You might discover that your own little weirdo has a talent for making people smile, too.

Just remember to let sleeping dogs lie.

Especially when they’re this fluffy.
