Every dog deserves a place to call home, a warm bed, and a human who understands them.

But for some, like Peanut, that dream has been heartbreakingly out of reach for far too long.

This goofy, 5-year-old shelter dog loves sunbathing and playing fetch, and once he opens up, he’s described as loyal, playful, and affectionate.

So why has he been waiting over 500 days for a family?

Peanut’s story is a tough one.

Adopted as a puppy, he was returned shortly after. Since then, he’s been in and out of the shelter system, never truly getting to settle down.

These repeated heartbreaks have left their mark. When new people visit the rescue, Peanut often cowers, appearing unfriendly.

This sadly makes him “invisible to adopters,” as one rescue put it, leading some to mistakenly label him as “unadoptable.”

But here’s the truth: Peanut isn’t unfriendly.

He’s just terrified of people because he’s been given up on so many times.

What visitors don’t see is the real Peanut—the one who cuddles with staff, loves belly rubs, and transforms into a happy, silly pup once he feels safe.

As The Vanderpump Dog Foundation shares, “he needs to learn to trust you first.”

@savethedogs

It broke my heart when @Vanderpump Dogs told me about Peanut and how long he’s been in and out of the rescue. He came in as a puppy from the shelter and he’s been in and out and most recently he’s been in there for 499 days straight . This poor baby is 5 years old and SO scared of humans I couldn’t even get close to him to take a video 😔 he needs the perfect owner who will have patience and love for him to help him. Vanderpump is willing to cover cost of transport and he’s been working with a trainer . There’s hope out there for him !! #dog #dogsoftiktok #dogs #foryoupage #adoptdontshop #rescue #hope #love #patience #fyp #foryoupage

Peanut is looking for a special kind of family. One that understands his past and is ready to patiently guide him.

He thrives on structure and would do best in a calm, adult-only, one-dog household where he can be the goofy, loving companion he truly is.

All Peanut wants is for someone to look past his initial shyness, see the incredible dog within, and give him the chance he so deeply deserves.

Could you be the patient, loving person Peanut has been waiting five long years to trust?

If Peanut’s story touched your heart, consider reaching out to The Vanderpump Dog Foundation to learn more about him, or explore adopting a rescue dog in your local area.
