A harrowing scene unfolded in South Eugene on Friday, July 25, when an apartment building erupted in flames.

Amidst the chaos, a furry hero emerged: a beloved dog named Taquito, who was bravely rescued by quick-thinking firefighters.

This dramatic rescue highlights the incredible dedication of our first responders and the precious lives they save, even those with four paws.

According to Eugene Springfield Fire Chief Michael Caven, firefighters were called to the scene on the 2900 block of Willamette Street just before 11:00 AM.

Smoke was pouring from the single-story building, signaling a serious situation.

As crews battled the blaze, they simultaneously conducted a search for any occupants.

It was during this critical search that they located Taquito.

The brave pup had inhaled smoke but, thankfully, “should be fine,” Chief Caven confirmed.

Medics were on hand to tend to Taquito at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

Firefighters managed to contain the fire to a single room, preventing further devastation.

While Willamette Street was briefly closed to traffic as firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze, it has since reopened.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Taquito’s dramatic rescue is a powerful reminder of the dangers posed by house fires and the vital role that firefighters play in protecting both human and animal lives.

This story of courage and resilience is a truly paw-sitive outcome in the face of adversity.
