If you’ve ever owned a Golden Retriever, you know they are creatures of pure, unbridled joy.

Their excitement knows no bounds, and when they are happy, the whole world seems to know it.

This was certainly the case for Birdie, a two-year-old Golden Retriever from Iowa, who took her excitement for a day at doggy daycare to an entirely new, and hilariously dramatic, level.

The scene of the accidental crime was Dogwoods Lodge, a doggy daycare in Grimes, Iowa.

For Birdie, Friday is the best day of the week because that’s when she gets to go play.

She is, by all accounts, not a candidate for the “lazy room.” She’s all about the action, the play, the non-stop fun.

And as she arrived at the daycare, her energy was at its peak.

So excited was she to get to the “crazy room” with all her friends that she began to bounce, jumping up and down with all the happy gusto a Golden Retriever can muster.

Then, it happened.

In her frenzy of pure joy, Birdie accidentally struck the fire alarm with her paw.

The alarm blared, and chaos, albeit temporary, ensued.

The dogs barked, the staff was in a flurry, and soon, the Johnston-Grimes Metropolitan Fire Department was on the way.

It took the daycare’s staff a few moments to figure out the source of the false alarm.

It wasn’t until they reviewed the surveillance footage that they saw their enthusiastic culprit in action, caught red-pawed on camera.

The video shows Birdie’s exuberant leaps culminating in a single, perfectly timed tap of the alarm, a clear case of overwhelming excitement turning into an impromptu fire drill.

The incident could have been a major issue, but everyone—including the fire department—took it in stride.

One firefighter, Nick Pearson, even told the Des Moines Register that they were happy for the chance to visit the pups.

After all, what’s a better day on the job than one that involves a group of happy dogs?

As for Birdie, the staff at Dogwoods Lodge posted an adorable photo of her on social media.

In the picture, she’s wearing a sign around her neck that reads, “I’m sorry I pulled the fire alarm today.”

She looks incredibly repentant, a classic case of a dog who knows she’s in a little bit of trouble.

The daycare’s post explained that Birdie simply “tested our fire system today,” and they’ve since ordered covers for the alarms.

Birdie’s story is a heartwarming and hilarious reminder of the beautiful chaos that dogs bring into our lives.

She may have caused a bit of a commotion, but she also provided a valuable lesson, gave the firefighters a chance to practice, and, most importantly, made everyone laugh.

It’s a perfect tale that proves sometimes, the biggest personalities come in the fuzziest packages.
