Six years. That’s how long JP, a gentle hound mix, has called the shelter his home. Not his choice, but fate’s.

In 2019, his owner was deployed for military duty and, with heavy heart, surrendered JP to the Bideawee Animal Shelter in New York City.

What was meant to be temporary turned into years of longing and quiet hope.

JP wasn’t always timid and cautious. The Dodo described him as lively and loving upon arrival—full of smiles, exuberance, and a zest for life.

But six years within shelter walls can wear on anyone. Today, JP leans toward his caretakers, cuddles when he trusts, and takes life one gentle step at a time.

Why has the world kept missing JP? It’s tragic but pitch-perfect truth: large senior dogs get overlooked.

They take more space, may cost more to care for, and their golden years can feel, to many, unworthy of investment.

That’s how JP exchanged military hugs for kennel bars—not because he lacked love, but because love chose not to wait for him.

Thankfully, sweet souls at Bideawee aren’t giving up. A generous donor recently waived JP’s adoption fee, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition is offering his adopter a year’s supply of Science Diet Senior Vitality food.

Plus a four-week training package with GoodPup. That’s not just good news. That’s a lifeline.

JP is selective, and that’s okay. He’s looking for patience, quiet trust, and a home that matches his tempo. No noisy toddlers.

No dizzying chaos. Just companionship, belly rubs on the couch, and slow walks he won’t trip over. He may take time to trust, but when he does, that loyalty will last.

What JP needs now isn’t a miracle—just someone patient enough to give him a chance.

A few steps toward trust, door-by-door cuddle, quiet evening by the fireplace. Someone who doesn’t see age or size, but a heart big enough to still love deeply.

JP is 10 years old, and he’s been with us for… wait for it… almost 1650 days. That’s a massive part of his lifetime, and we are searching hard for the best pet parent for him. He needs an older children or adult-only home without any pets. As you can see, he’s clearly a staff fave and he deserves the absolute best home to live out his golden years. ✨🩵🫶 #adoptaseniordog #seniordog #adoptadog #boost #fyp #yournumberone

Picture this: a senior dog with soft eyes, who’s spent six Christmases hoping you’ll arrive.

Think about that. Then think: you could be his.

If this nudges your heart, you can reach out. Share JP’s story.

Advocate for seniors and big pups waiting for love. And if you can open your home—open it for JP.

Because homes aren’t just about space.

They’re about hope. And right now, JP’s hope is crawling toward you, with a tail that’s never given up wagging.
