When most people dream about bringing home a puppy, they picture fluffy ears, soft fur, and a little tail that never stops wagging.
But sometimes, the best dogs don’t fit that picture-perfect mold.
Just ask Harry Candice from London, who ended up with the world’s most unlikely internet star: a bald little pup named Dobby.
Harry hadn’t exactly planned to adopt a dog—at least not in the way things unfolded. In 2024, he quietly signed up with The Dogs Trust to adopt a rescue.
His boyfriend didn’t even know about it until months later, when Harry suddenly got a call about a “potential match.”
The charity quickly arranged a virtual home tour to make sure everything was safe and ready for their mysterious pup.
And this was no ordinary dog.
Dobby, just 8 weeks old at the time, had been born in the shelter.
He was lively, curious, and bursting with personality—but he also had something most puppies don’t: bald patches across his body.
His thin black fur was patchy, especially on his head, giving him a quirky, one-of-a-kind look. Many people might have overlooked him because of it. But Harry and his partner didn’t care.
“We were the first to view him,” Harry recalled. “Because of his special features, he isn’t the most aesthetic dog that some people look for, but we didn’t care at all.
His personality was adorable.”
Dobby’s baldness is caused by alopecia, a condition where the hair follicles don’t grow properly.
It’s not dangerous, but it can leave dogs with patchy coats or even completely hairless.
For Dobby, it simply made him unique.
The couple filled out the paperwork right away and brought him home.
At first, Dobby was shy and unsettled. But within a week, he was racing through the house, getting the zoomies, and showing off his silly side.
Like many new owners, Harry tried to set boundaries—Dobby had his own bed, after all.
But the pup had other ideas. The second he figured out how to jump up, he claimed the human bed as his own.
“Now he spends every night cuddling with us,” Harry laughed.
“In winter, he burrows into the duvet so he stays nice and warm.”
Over the past year, Dobby has gone from “the bald puppy” to the neighborhood’s most recognizable face.
Everyone knows his name. But his fame hasn’t stopped there—he’s become a full-blown internet sensation.
On TikTok and Instagram (@dobbythebaldie), his antics and big personality have earned him fans worldwide.
A recent video showing his transformation from shy rescue to happy family dog went viral, racking up over 326,000 views and more than 63,000 likes.
The comments poured in: “He looks like a well-loved teddy bear.” Another wrote, “He’s adorable. Definitely needs a wardrobe with hats.”
Even The Dogs Trust chimed in: “He is so special, but so are you both for giving Dobby the life he deserves.”
For Harry and his partner, the reaction has been overwhelming—but heartwarming.
“We just wanted people to see him like we do,” Harry said. “A fun, silly little puppy who enjoys every day. It’s clear the community loves a bald puppy.”
Dobby may not look like the “perfect” pup people imagine—but to his family, and now the world, he’s nothing short of extraordinary.
