Ali Jaeger and Nick Reilly were on an adventurous road trip through Central America with their dog, Timmy. While parked in Costa Rica, they heard distressing sounds at night and discovered a female dog being attacked by four others. Without hesitation, they chased the aggressors away and offered the injured dog refuge in their van. She accepted, curling up in the driver’s footwell, finally finding peace.
The next morning, expecting her to leave, they found her still there, eyes pleading to stay. They named her Ola. Recognizing her need for care, they took her to a vet, treating her ear infection and leg injuries. Ola became part of their journey, traveling through Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras, experiencing love and safety for the first time.

Their story resonated online, with a TikTok video of Ola’s first night going viral. Moved by their experience, Ali and Nick founded “Expedition Ola,” a mission to rescue and rehome street dogs across the Americas. Their compassion turned a chance encounter into a life-changing journey, reminding us that sometimes, the most unexpected moments lead to the most profound transformations.
