Ozzy the husky had almost forgotten what life outside a kennel felt like. For 532 days, he lived behind shelter doors — surrendered, waiting, and hoping.

Ozzy arrived at a shelter in Pasco, Washington in May 2024, handed over with his brother, Bark.

As a 6-year-old Siberian husky, he was energetic, loving stuffed toys, and bred for activity — but he needed a home where he could be the only dog.

That combination made finding the right family much tougher than usual.

His days at the shelter stretched on. Volunteers noted that, despite his high energy, Ozzy could be “tough to place.”

Families came and went, but none stayed quite right — until someone finally stepped forward for a foster-to-adopt arrangement.

Ozzy’s rescuer shared that, before his adoption, he had spent his entire life outdoors — a fact that makes his shelter stay all the more bittersweet.

But the shelter staff did their part: during his stay, they made sure he had a large pool in the play yard to swim in, squeaky toys in tow.

Now, Ozzy has a home that fits him — a family that understands his energy, his love of play, and his need for room to roam.

His adopters, who speak Spanish, welcomed his arrival with a simple loving phrase: “Vamos mi amor.” (“Come on, my love.”)

It wasn’t just a new place for Ozzy — it was a safe space where he belongs.
