So you want to go camping… but leaving your dog behind feels criminal. Totally get it. The good news? You can bring your pup — and honestly, it might just make the trip 10x better.
Fresh air, open trails, no emails… and your dog living their best off-leash fantasy (safely, of course)? Sign us up.
But before you throw your tent in the trunk and shout “let’s go,” here’s what you really need to know to make camping with your dog a win for everyone.

First, know your dog.
If your pup isn’t into new environments, loud noises, or, you know, bugs… maybe start with a backyard trial run. Not every dog is a wilderness explorer.
Check your gear.
Bring a leash, poop bags, food, water, bowls, and a doggy first-aid kit (yes, that’s a thing). Bonus points for packing a comfy bed or blanket from home — familiar smells = calmer pup.
Do your homework.
Not every campground is dog-friendly. Make sure the site allows dogs, and check their rules (some require leashes at all times).

Etiquette matters.
Clean up after your dog. Keep them close. And don’t assume every other camper wants a surprise cuddle at 6am.
Watch out for wildlife.
That squirrel your dog thinks is a fun chase? Could lead to a very not-fun vet visit. Keep them safe and in sight.
Camping with your dog can be amazing — early morning hikes, stargazing, and cuddles by the fire. Just plan a little, prep smart, and think like a good trail buddy.
Because a happy dog = a happy camper.
