Dogs truly have a remarkable ability to befriend anyone, from humans to farm animals.
But for one Bavarian Mountain Hound named Rigby, his chosen companion is even more unique: an African Crested Porcupine named Penny!
While the idea of snuggling a creature covered in sharp quills might seem daunting, Rigby has embraced their unusual friendship wholeheartedly.
A recent video, captured on June 15th, showcases the ridiculously cute bond between Rigby and the affectionate Penny.
Their caretaker, Ruben, explains that Rigby was initially a bit wary of Penny’s displays of affection, but he’s since completely warmed up to her.
Penny clearly believes there’s nothing better than a good dog to cuddle, showering Rigby with endless kisses and ensuring he never feels alone.
Rigby, in turn, seems to understand the wisdom of keeping his quill-armed lady happy!
Penny, as an African Crested Porcupine, is the largest porcupine species in the world, native to central and southern Africa.
These fascinating creatures are primarily nocturnal and rely on their keen sense of smell and hearing due to poor eyesight.
And, despite common myths, they don’t actually shoot their quills; instead, they stop abruptly to make predators run into them.
But Penny is clearly more of a lover than a fighter, a fact Rigby has learned well.
Their adorable connection has melted hearts online, with one viewer humorously commenting, “Iām just here with misty eyes waiting on the wedding invite.”
This heartwarming duo proves that love and friendship can blossom in the most unexpected and spiky of places!
