What’s the best way to start a career as a life-changing service dog? With a ride on an iconic airship, of course!
A group of adorable puppies, who are just beginning their rigorous service dog training, received a spectacular, sky-high send-off aboard the Goodyear Blimp, joined by the world’s most famous beagle, Snoopy.
This one-of-a-kind event didn’t just celebrate two huge anniversaries—it highlighted a vital mission to change lives.
The epic journey took place on October 1st, marking a celebration of two major milestones: the 75th anniversary of the Peanuts comic strip and the 100th anniversary of the Goodyear blimp.
To honor the occasion, the beloved Snoopy, acting as the honorary “blimp pilot,” was joined by three incredibly important passengers: puppies Niagara, Rhubarb, and Pauley.

These three 10-week-old Labrador and Golden Retriever mixes are all service dogs in training with Canine Companions.
The nonprofit organization, which is celebrating its own 50th Anniversary, is dedicated to providing expertly trained service dogs to people living with disabilities.
The blimp ride served as an unforgettable delivery service, transporting the pups from Long Beach, California, to the Canine Companions facility in Carson, California.
Once the airship touched down, Snoopy and the puppies were greeted by an eager crowd, including the dogs’ volunteer puppy raisers.
This is where the real work begins.
Over the next 16 months, these dedicated raisers will take the puppies into their homes to socialize them, teach them basic obedience, and prepare them for the specialized service dog training that will follow.
It’s a huge commitment, but it’s the foundation for a lifetime of service.
The entire event was designed to raise much-needed awareness for Canine Companions.
As Jeannie Schulz, the widow of Peanuts creator Charles M. Schulz and a Canine Companions board member, stated, she was “particularly delighted that Snoopy was able to join in the fun this time around – all while riding the Goodyear Blimp!”

Beyond the cuteness factor, the timing of the celebration was crucial.
Service dog organizations, including Canine Companions, are currently facing a shortage of volunteer puppy raisers.
This shortage can delay the critical process of matching people with disabilities with the service dogs they desperately need.
The organization hopes this adorable, high-profile flight will encourage animal lovers to step up and open their homes to future heroes.
As Canine Companions’ chief marketing officer, Jeanine Konopelski, noted, “Peanuts reminds us that happiness is a warm puppy, and now, thanks to Goodyear, these future service dogs were able to get a sky-high sendoff aboard an iconic blimp – a perfect start to a lifetime of service.”
The puppies’ memorable flight with Snoopy was more than just a celebration; it was a hopeful start to a career that will one day transform the lives of people living with disabilities, proving that the journey to heroism can begin with a puppy ride high in the sky.
