This majestic Great Pyrenees, a magnificent “Arizona polar bear” with a heart as big as her snowy coat, spent years on the front lines, a vigilant guardian of livestock.

Her job? Keeping goats and pigs safe from the shadows of predators, a crucial duty she embraced with unwavering loyalty.

Ama wasn’t just a guard dog; she was a legend in the making.

She honed her skills, stood her ground, and later, even trained her own son, Eneko, to take over the family business.

Talk about dedication! After years of faithful service, ensuring her charges were safe, Ama finally earned her golden ticket: retirement!

And let me tell you, this isn’t just any retirement.

This is the dream retirement every loyal worker deserves.

Ama, along with Eneko, found their way to the incredible Old Souls Animal Rescue in Tucson in 2023.

Here, her days of patrolling fences and facing down threats are happily over.

Ama spent her whole life guarding livestock, and when we realized our goat herd and potbelly pigs needed a little extra security…we brought her in, she trained up her son to take over the job, and then officially retired.
