After 798 days in care, Cali finally got her happily ever after — and the moment she was adopted, it was clear why so many people had been cheering for her all along.
Cali, a 5-year-old bully mix, came into the care of the Los Angeles nonprofit Wags & Walks in 2023. Shortly after arriving, she gave birth to 11 puppies, who were adopted quickly. But while her puppies found homes, Cali stayed behind.
Her shelter journey stretched on as visitors loved her gentle nature but didn’t quite take the step to bring her home.

“Something about her sweet eyes just kept calling me back,” Crystal later told People. The more she watched the videos and photos, the more she felt a connection, so she sent in an adoption application.
