For one Illinois family, a powerful tornado destroyed the home they had built and scattered the life they once knew. As they searched through the devastation, they feared they had also lost one of the family members they loved most—their senior dog, Winnie.
Thankfully, her story was far from over.
Connie and Jeff Baker were at home in Teutopolis, Illinois, when a devastating EF3 tornado tore through their community. In a matter of moments, the violent storm ripped their house from its foundation, leaving destruction everywhere they looked.
As the tornado passed, storm chasers helped the couple escape the wreckage. Miraculously, they survived the terrifying ordeal.
Two of their three dogs, Sam and Willow, soon came running across a nearby field.
But Winnie was nowhere to be found.
The Bakers’ hearts sank.
At 15 years old, Winnie wasn’t just any dog. The sweet Corgi was a beloved senior with arthritis, as well as hearing and vision problems. The thought of her wandering alone through the wreckage after such a violent storm was almost too much to bear.
