For six months, nobody came for Tony.

Tony and Tyson had been found wandering along a county road in Texas when they were only about 7 or 8 months old.

A kind woman brought them home before reaching out to Bosque Animal Rescue Kennels, or BARK, for help.

The rescue gave the brothers a safe place to stay.

They gave them food.

Care.

Shelter.

And time.

But the days turned into weeks.

The weeks turned into months.

And still, nobody seemed interested in Tony.

Then everything changed.

Because hundreds of miles away, a family was quietly waiting for a dog they didn’t even know existed.

The Dog Nobody Saw

Tony spent six long months at BARK.

According to his rescuers, his black coat and Pittie-type appearance may have contributed to potential adopters overlooking him.

That’s the heartbreaking reality for many rescue dogs.

It hadn’t worked out.

Then the call came.

There was a young Texas rescue dog who had recently arrived in Wisconsin through a BARK freedom ride.

The rescue thought he might be the right fit.

When Dawn heard about him, she didn’t hesitate.

She called the volunteer.

“Bring him.”

And about 30 minutes later…

Tony walked through their gate.

That was the moment everything changed.

Tony Became Ripp

Tony arrived at the home with some understandable anxiety.

He had experienced a lot of change.

But it didn’t take long for him to discover something wonderful.

He was home.

He was allowed inside.

He was allowed on the couch.

He was allowed in the bed.

And according to Dawn, once Ripp discovered those privileges, there was no going back.

“He stole our hearts immediately,” she said.

Tony was given a new name.

Ripp.

And he wasn’t just getting a new name.

He was getting a family.

What would Hope think?

Hope Had The Final Say

Hope had suffered deeply in her own past.

According to Dawn, she had survived abuse before being thrown from a moving vehicle and abandoned.

Another hurdle.

Another reason this dog could have been overlooked.

But this time, Ripp wasn’t facing it alone.

He had people who loved him.

He had Hope.

He had a home.

And he had finally found the people who were willing to fight for him.

The Dog Who Helped Heal A Family

There was something else Dawn began noticing.

Ripp reminded her of Blue.

He also reminded her of Jersey, another beloved dog the family had lost.

In a strange and beautiful way, Ripp seemed to carry pieces of both dogs with him.
