Some dogs want the couch. Some want the bed. Ash the Afghan Hound apparently wants the cat tree.

And judging by her determined attempt, she has no intention of letting cat furniture stand between her and the perch.

Ash recently became the star of a video after trying to climb a cat tree where her Persian cat sister had already claimed the top spot.

The sight was impossible to ignore.

With her long, flowing coat spilling down her body, Ash looked less like a dog climbing furniture and more like a luxurious area rug that had somehow been hung vertically.

Seriously, the “vertical carpet” description fits.

When Ash stands up against the cat tree, her fur streams backward like a waterfall.

Her darker nose and paws also give her a look reminiscent of a color-pointed Ragdoll cat, making the whole scene even more unusual.

And while Ash certainly has plenty of elegance, she apparently has a little attitude to match.

Her Persian cat sister had settled comfortably on the cat tree, seemingly determined to keep the prized location for herself.

Ash, meanwhile, appeared ready to challenge that decision.

The result is a hilarious picture of two pets with different ideas about space.

Ash lives with her Persian feline companion, and their relationship is described as something of a love-hate situation.

Sometimes they get along perfectly well.

Other times, Ash’s enormous, fluffy presence is apparently too much for her smaller housemate, who can escape by climbing upward.

The cat tree suddenly becomes less like furniture and more like an emergency exit.

Fortunately, life at home seems wonderful.

Her mom treats her like a princess, meeting her wherever she happens to be and bringing treats along the way.

They sometimes settle in sunny patches while Ash enjoys plenty of treats.

Of course, being spoiled has consequences.

The moment her mom starts walking away, Ash apparently goes right back to begging for more.

Who could blame her?

The funny video also highlights something important about Afghan Hounds.

These elegant dogs were bred as sight hounds, meaning they have strong instincts to identify and chase moving targets.

Because cats can trigger those instincts, Afghan Hounds are not generally considered an easy match for feline companions.

That does not mean dogs and cats cannot live peacefully together.

Their relationship may require patience, training, supervision, and careful introductions.

Introducing an Afghan Hound to a cat while the dog is young can help.

Consistent training is important, and they should not be left alone together if chasing is a concern.

Plenty of appropriate exercise can help satisfy that natural need to run.

Most importantly, cats should have safe places where they can retreat when they need space.

For Ash and her Persian sister, that safe place happens to be a cat tree.

Whether Ash can actually conquer it remains another question.

But one thing is certain: she is not giving up easily.

With all that luxurious fur flowing behind her, she may look like a glamorous carpet. Yet underneath the stunning coat is a determined dog who wants what the cat has.

And honestly, that might be the relatable part of the whole story.

Sometimes you do not want your own spot.

You want your sibling’s.

Especially when it is higher, cozier, and already occupied.
