Italian Greyhounds are known for being affectionate little shadows.

They often follow their favorite humans from room to room, curl up beside them and seem determined to be involved in whatever is happening.

So when James Hoyles decided to stage a dramatic “kidnapping” to see how his beloved Italian Greyhound would react, he probably expected Trevor to be alarmed.

Maybe he’d bark.

Maybe he’d rush over.

Maybe he’d attempt some heroic rescue.

Trevor had a completely different plan.

In a playful video shared by his family, James dramatically pretends to be carried away while calling for help. Trevor watches the entire scene unfold.

And then?

Nothing.

The tiny dog doesn’t exactly spring into action.

Instead, Trevor appears remarkably unimpressed by the whole performance.

His expression barely changes as he watches Dad’s dramatic situation unfold. Then, as if the entire kidnapping has become too exhausting to deal with, Trevor lets out a perfectly timed yawn.

And just like that, the would-be rescue mission is apparently canceled.

Trevor has other priorities.

Specifically, sleep.

The contrast is what makes the moment so funny.

Dad is acting like he’s starring in an action movie, desperately calling for help.

Trevor looks like he’s watching a mildly inconvenient television commercial.

His reaction had viewers laughing, with some joking that Trevor had already decided Dad’s predicament was somebody else’s problem.

One person summed up his attitude perfectly: it was a “daddy problem, not a Trevor problem.”

And honestly, Trevor’s expression certainly makes it look that way.

Of course, it’s impossible to know exactly what was going through his mind.

Dogs don’t necessarily interpret staged human situations the same way we do. Their reactions depend on things like body language, tone of voice, previous experiences and individual temperament.

Some dogs become immediately alert when something unusual happens.

Others investigate.

Some seek reassurance from their humans.

And then there’s Trevor.

Apparently, his first response to Dad’s dramatic performance was to observe the situation and decide that it wasn’t worth interrupting his rest.

His yawn makes the scene even funnier, but yawning doesn’t always mean a dog is simply tired. Dogs can also yawn during moments of uncertainty or mild emotional arousal.

Still, without knowing exactly what Trevor was experiencing, there’s no way to say what his yawn meant in that particular moment.

What we can say is that his timing was impeccable.

The whole scene is a perfect example of why dogs are so entertaining.

We can imagine exactly how our pets will react to something, only to discover that they have completely different plans.

One dog might bark at the slightest unusual sound.

And Trevor?

He apparently watches his dad get “kidnapped” and thinks, “I’ll deal with this after my nap.”

That laid-back personality is part of what makes him so lovable.

He may not have behaved like the heroic rescue dog his dad was hoping for, but Trevor certainly delivered something better: an unforgettable reaction.

And perhaps that’s the real lesson.

Dogs don’t all respond to unusual situations in predictable ways. Every dog has an individual personality, and sometimes those personalities produce moments that are far funnier than anything their humans could have planned.

James may have been hoping to discover whether Trevor would come to his rescue.

Instead, he discovered something else.

Trevor has boundaries.

And apparently, fake kidnappings are not important enough to disturb his nap.

Dad can handle the drama.

Trevor has sleeping to do.
