Never had never met his new neighbor before. But the moment the dog discovered what lived on the other side of the balcony, a new friendship began.
Mauro Tutzo had noticed a couple moving into the apartment next door.
He worked from home alone and looked forward to having new neighbors.
He never expected one to introduce himself by climbing over the shared balcony.
One afternoon, Mauro suddenly spotted a black-and-tan dog standing outside his balcony door and staring inside.
The dog, named Never, had apparently discovered exactly the right person.
Mauro sells pet supplies, and his home office happened to be filled with enrichment toys. Naturally, he invited Never inside to investigate.
He prepared a squeezable treat inside an enrichment toy and placed it on the floor.
Never immediately lapped up the treat. Afterward, instead of heading home, he stayed for several hours, happily playing and eventually taking a nap.
When Never’s parents returned from work, Mauro introduced himself and learned more about his unexpected visitor.
Never had access to the balcony during the day while his parents worked, but he did not particularly enjoy being alone.
Mauro described him as extremely needy, always wanting attention and becoming annoyed whenever the petting stopped.
Mauro certainly did not mind.
In fact, he was delighted when Never returned the following day.
Mauro woke around noon and found the dog already waiting at the sliding glass door.
This time, he decided to give Never a special experience of his own: a steam-brush session.
It was not technically a toy, but Mauro suspected the affectionate dog might enjoy being brushed.
He was right.
Never loved every second of his little spa treatment.
Once the brushing was finished, he settled down on the floor for a few more hours before eventually hopping back over the balcony divider when his parents returned.
Then he came back the next morning.
And the next.
Soon, Never’s visits became part of their daily routine.
Mauro would prepare something new for him, while Never eagerly explored the growing collection of toys.
One of his favorites was a toy designed to resemble a toothbrush. As Never chewed it, the toy helped brush his teeth and remove tartar buildup.
Never loved visiting Mauro nearby, and Mauro loved having him around.
Their connection became so strong that Mauro genuinely missed the dog whenever he was away.
That happened when Never’s family took a trip. Mauro did not see him for about two days, and the building suddenly felt empty.
Fortunately, Never’s family returned a few days later, and the two friends immediately resumed their routine.
Never was not wandering away from a loving family or being neglected.
He simply had discovered a neighbor who offered something wonderful: companionship, attention, interesting toys, and plenty of affection.
Mauro also knew when it was time for Never to go home.
Whenever Never heard his owner, he immediately returned to his own balcony.
Never had found a neighbor who welcomed his visits.
Mauro had found a furry companion who made working from home feel much less lonely.
Sometimes, the best friendships begin unexpectedly.
No introduction was necessary.
Never simply climbed over the balcony, looked through the door, and decided he had found his people.
And judging by how eagerly he kept coming back, he was absolutely right.
