When Marco first arrived at the shelter, she didn’t look like a dog ready to meet her forever family.

Marco and her brother, Polo, were found loose inside a lobby before being brought to the shelter in crates inside a police car.

Before long, Marco had transformed into what rescuers described as a “social butterfly.”
And suddenly, the same dog who once looked terrified in her kennel was happily interacting with shelter staff.
They had fallen in love with her.
Now they were hoping someone else would, too.
She’s Still Waiting

But she still doesn’t have a forever home.
Marco is currently waiting at Queens ACC for someone to see the dog hiding beneath all that fear—the sweet dog who simply needed someone patient enough to give her a chance.

Sometimes the dog jumping at the front of the kennel isn’t the dog who needs you most.
Sometimes it’s the quiet one in the back.
The one who won’t make eye contact.
The one who doesn’t know how to ask for affection yet.
The one who needs you to sit down, slow down, and give her a reason to believe that people can be good.
Marco’s story is proof of what can happen when someone refuses to judge a dog by her first reaction.
