Some dogs are perfectly content chasing a ball around the backyard.
Gus the Golden Retriever, however, apparently prefers his adventures with a little more speed.
When his dad recently pulled out the jet ski and began getting it ready for a day on the water, Gus was paying very close attention.
The Golden Retriever seemed to know exactly what was about to happen — and he clearly had no intention of being left behind.
As soon as the jet ski was ready, Gus climbed aboard with his dad.
And just like that, this Golden Retriever became the happiest passenger on the lake.
Gus wore an adorable shark-themed life vest as he settled in for the ride. Once the jet ski took off, the pup appeared completely at ease, enjoying the wind rushing past his face as the two sped across the water.
His floppy ears bounced in the breeze, and his face seemed to be locked into a giant canine grin.
It was the kind of adventure many dogs would probably dream about.
For Gus, it seemed to be another day of having fun with his favorite person.
The video quickly captured people’s attention, and viewers couldn’t get over how comfortable the Golden Retriever looked on the jet ski.
Some joked that Gus was living a better life than they were, while others simply admired his enthusiasm for the unusual outing.
One thing was obvious: Gus was having an absolute blast.
His love of the water isn’t particularly surprising, either.
Golden Retrievers have a long history of working around water. The breed was developed to retrieve waterfowl, including ducks and geese, for hunters.
Their physical traits also make them well suited to swimming, including a dense double coat, strong tail and paws that help them move through the water.
But their natural abilities aren’t the only reason Goldens tend to be such enthusiastic swimmers.
They also love to play.
For a breed known for its cheerful, energetic personality, a day spent around a lake can be the perfect combination of exercise, exploration and fun.
Gus appears to have embraced all three.
His jet ski adventure wasn’t simply about getting from one side of the lake to another. He was right there beside his dad, experiencing something new and enjoying every second of it.
Of course, adventures on the water require careful attention to safety.
Dogs riding on boats or other watercraft should be closely supervised and wear properly fitted flotation equipment. Even strong canine swimmers can become tired or find themselves in unpredictable water conditions.
Gus had his shark life vest on, allowing him to enjoy the ride while adding an extra layer of protection.
And judging by his expression, he wasn’t complaining.
If anything, he looked ready for another round.
There is something especially sweet about seeing dogs included in their families’ favorite activities. For Gus, spending time on the lake isn’t just about the jet ski.
It’s about being with Dad.
Whether he’s swimming, riding along or simply watching his family prepare for another adventure, Gus clearly wants to be part of the action.
And after seeing how confidently he handled his latest outing, it’s hard not to wonder what he’ll be doing next.
Maybe another jet ski ride.
Maybe a swim.
Or, if Gus gets his way, perhaps one day he’ll finally get to take the driver’s seat.
For now, though, he’s already earned the title of coolest dog on the lake.
