Some dogs learn to sit, stay, or shake paws. But Wally, a lovable Golden Retriever, learned something much sweeter: how to give hugs.
And apparently, he loves his new skill so much that he can’t stop using it.
His owner, who shares their adventures on TikTok through @wally.meets.world, posted an adorable video showing what happens after teaching her dog how to embrace her.
The result? A whole lot of cuddles, plenty of smiles, and one very affectionate Golden Retriever.
One Simple Lesson Changed Everything
The video begins with Wally sitting beside his mom on the couch.
Instead of simply resting next to her, he slowly leans forward, pressing his head against hers and wrapping himself into a cozy embrace.
His mom immediately responds with a kiss on his nose.
The message on the video explains the situation perfectly: “I taught my dog how to give hugs and now it’s all he does.”
And the rest of the footage proves it.

Wally seems determined to turn every opportunity into another cuddle session.
Whether they’re sitting on the couch, relaxing outside, or spending time together on the floor, he repeatedly leans against his favorite human.
Sometimes he places a paw on her arm before bringing his head closer. Other times, he simply rests his entire upper body against her.
His mom clearly doesn’t mind the extra affection.
Wally Makes Hugging His Favorite Habit
One particularly sweet moment shows Wally sitting outside with his mom.
She kneels beside the couch, and he gently places his paw over her arm before leaning his head against her chest.
It’s a simple gesture, but the affection is unmistakable.
The montage continues with more hugs in different places, including the yard and inside the house.
By the final scenes, Wally is cuddling beside his mom in bed, looking completely content.
It’s easy to understand why viewers fell in love with him.
A Golden Retriever who voluntarily asks for hugs is already adorable.
One who seems to make it his personal mission to hug his family throughout the day is something else entirely.
Why Dogs Enjoy Physical Affection
Dogs communicate with people through body language, facial expressions, and physical contact.
Leaning against someone, resting their head on a lap, or gently placing a paw on an arm can be ways of seeking attention and closeness.
However, not every dog enjoys being hugged. Some feel uncomfortable when their movement is restricted, so it’s important to pay attention to their body language and respect their preferences.
Wally’s relaxed posture and willingness to initiate contact suggest that these moments are something he genuinely enjoys.
And his owner seems more than happy to return the affection.
Viewers Wish They Had a Wally of Their Own
The video quickly attracted attention, earning more than 78,000 likes.
People filled the comments with messages about how much they wished their own dogs would give hugs like Wally.
One viewer joked about wanting to clone him, while others simply couldn’t get over how sweet the Golden Retriever was.
It’s not hard to see why.
There’s something special about a dog choosing to come closer without being asked.
Wally may have started learning hugs as a simple trick, but somewhere along the way, it became much more than that.
Now, he has a new way to show his favorite people just how much he loves being near them.
And judging by his enthusiasm, his family should probably expect plenty more hugs in the days ahead.
