At 70 pounds, Fendi is the biggest dog at her shelter.
But instead of showing off her size, this frightened girl spends her days trying to make herself as small as possible.
The 2-year-old Labrador mix has been hiding at the back of her kennel, her tail tucked tightly between her legs.
Surrounded by unfamiliar smells, constant barking, and strange people, Fendi seems overwhelmed by everything happening around her.
It’s a heartbreaking sight, especially when you learn how different her life used to be.
Fendi didn’t grow up in a shelter. She knew what it meant to have a home, a family, and a comfortable place to sleep. But when her family lost their home, they faced an impossible decision.
They could no longer provide the life they wanted for her.
So Fendi ended up at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida, suddenly separated from the people and surroundings she had always known.
For a dog who had spent her life with a family, the change was enormous.
The shelter’s busy environment left her frightened and withdrawn. Even though staff members tried to help her feel comfortable, Fendi struggled to overcome her anxiety.
Her story was shared in a video by the shelter’s social media account, @humanebroward.
The message was simple but heartbreaking: their biggest dog was desperately trying to make herself disappear.

And the more you learn about Fendi, the more you wish you could tell her that she has nothing to hide from.
Because underneath all that fear is a sweet, affectionate dog who has so much love to give.
Before arriving at the shelter, Fendi enjoyed the things many beloved family dogs take for granted.
She loved visiting the dog park, sleeping in bed with her family, and playing with squeaky toys.
She was accustomed to being surrounded by people who cared about her.
Now, she needs someone willing to help her feel that kind of security again.
According to the shelter, Fendi is friendly and playful once she feels comfortable.
She is potty trained, crate trained, and knows basic commands. She’s also described as good with children and adults of all ages, as well as other dogs and cats.
In other words, there’s a wonderful companion waiting beneath the frightened expression.
Fendi doesn’t need someone to change her personality. She needs a patient person who understands that adjusting to a new environment takes time.
A quiet home, a predictable routine, and gentle encouragement could help her begin to relax.
She deserves the opportunity to discover that she doesn’t have to spend every day hiding from the world.
The shelter hopes to find Fendi a loving family willing to give her that chance.
They want someone who will look beyond her size and her nervous behavior in the kennel and see the dog she can be when she feels safe.
Someone who will welcome her onto the couch, toss her favorite squeaky toy, and give her the affection she’s missing.
Most importantly, someone who will help her understand that losing her first home doesn’t mean she’ll never have another.
Fendi’s story is a reminder that shelter behavior doesn’t always reveal a dog’s true personality. Fear and stress can make even a loving, playful dog withdraw.
Sometimes, what an animal needs most is time, patience, and the chance to settle into a safe environment.
Fendi has already experienced the heartbreak of losing her home.
Now, she deserves a family that will help her feel secure again.
She’s a big dog with an even bigger heart. She just needs someone to see it.
