Some friendships begin with a conversation. Others begin with a wagging tail and a little trip across the yard.
For Emmy, a sweet yellow Labrador Retriever, her favorite person isn’t someone who lives in her own home. It’s her next-door neighbor, Linda Rose.
And their friendship has become so special that Linda Rose made one thoughtful change to her house to ensure she would never miss another visit.
A Friendship That Started With a Wagging Tail
Emmy and Linda Rose became neighbors in early 2024, living in a quiet cul-de-sac. From their first meeting, it was clear that the friendly Labrador had found someone special.
According to Emmy’s dad, Russell, the pup began visiting Linda Rose every single day.
Whenever Emmy arrived at her neighbor’s door, she was often greeted with excitement and an invitation to come inside.
Linda Rose loved seeing her furry visitor, and Emmy seemed equally thrilled to spend time with her.
But there was one problem.

Sometimes, Linda Rose didn’t realize Emmy was waiting outside.
The polite pup would make her way across the yard, approach the front door, and wait for someone to answer. If nobody came, she’d eventually return home.
Later, Linda Rose would check her doorbell camera and discover that she’d missed another visit.
She hated missing Emmy, and the thought of her sweet friend standing outside unnoticed was heartbreaking.
Emmy even learned the phrase “she’s not home,” and according to Russell, her expression showed that she understood what it meant.
Thankfully, Linda Rose had an idea.
One Small Change Made a Big Difference
Linda Rose decided to upgrade her doorbell to make it easier for Emmy to let her know when she arrived.
The new doorbell was positioned at nose height, allowing the clever Labrador to press it herself.
Now, Emmy doesn’t have to hope someone hears her at the door. She can simply walk up and ring the bell.
And she takes her new responsibility very seriously.
According to Russell, Emmy will sprint across both yards to reach Linda Rose’s house. Once she arrives, she repeatedly nudges the doorbell with her nose until someone answers.
Sometimes, she even presses it several times if she thinks her friend is taking too long.
It’s hard to imagine a more adorable way to announce a visit.
Emmy patiently waits on the porch, sometimes wearing soft boots on her front paws to prevent her from scratching the door. Then, when Linda Rose finally opens it, the Labrador’s tail starts wagging wildly.
She rushes inside, ready to enjoy time with her favorite human.
Meanwhile, Russell waits outside until their visit is over.
A Neighbor Who Became Family
Emmy’s visits aren’t just quick greetings at the door.
Linda Rose and her husband, Mark, play with her and even buy toys for their furry friend. Emmy loves spending time in their home so much that getting her to leave can become a challenge.
Sometimes, both Linda Rose and Mark need to tempt her back outside with treats.
It’s clear that this friendship means the world to everyone involved.
Linda Rose told The Dodo that she loves seeing Emmy every day and feels proud that the sweet dog chose her as her best friend.
And who could blame her?
There’s something wonderful about being the person a dog is so excited to see that she makes a special trip just to spend time with you.
The Sweetest Kind of Friendship
Emmy’s story is a reminder that kindness doesn’t always require grand gestures.
Sometimes, it means making a small change so someone you love feels welcome.
Linda Rose could have simply hoped to catch Emmy’s visits more often. Instead, she found a way to make sure her furry friend could always announce herself.
Now, every ring of the doorbell brings the possibility of another happy reunion.
And for Emmy, the message is simple: Her favorite neighbor is always worth visiting.
Because sometimes, the best friendships come with four paws, a wagging tail, and a very determined nose.
