Ruby had been patient.

Very patient.

But apparently, even a Golden Retriever has limits.

Ruby recently got a new puppy sister named Pearl.

And while having a puppy around can mean more playtime, more cuddles and more fun, Pearl had apparently misunderstood one very important household rule.

Not every toy belonged to her.

Pearl kept stealing Ruby’s toys.

Again.

And again.

And again.

For a while, Ruby seemed willing to tolerate it.

But eventually, the older dog apparently decided she had seen enough.

And instead of starting a chase or making a dramatic scene, Ruby came up with a much simpler solution.

She sat on her.

The hilarious moment was captured on video, and the setup is almost as funny as what happens next.

Ruby walks directly toward Pearl.

Then she pauses.

And looks back at Mom.

It almost looks like she’s checking to make sure someone is watching.

Because what happens next seems very deliberate.

Ruby turns around.

She positions herself carefully.

And then…

She sits directly on Pearl.

Mom immediately starts laughing.

And it’s hard not to understand why.

Ruby doesn’t look furious.

She doesn’t seem to be attacking her little sister.

She simply appears to have decided that if Pearl wants to keep taking her toys, Pearl can temporarily become a piece of furniture.

The funniest part may be how carefully Ruby executes the whole thing.

She doesn’t just plop down randomly.

She looks.

She positions herself.

She sits.

Message delivered.

Pearl, meanwhile, seems to have learned that being the youngest dog in the house doesn’t necessarily mean getting everything you want.

Especially when your big sister has finally reached her limit.

Anyone who has brought a puppy into a home with an older dog probably recognizes the dynamic.

Puppies have very little concept of personal property.

That toy you’re chewing?

They want it.

The toy sitting three feet away?

They want that too.

The bed your older dog is peacefully resting in?

Obviously, they want that.

Puppies explore the world by grabbing, chewing and investigating practically everything.

And older dogs don’t always appreciate their enthusiasm.

Ruby’s solution is certainly not one humans should imitate as a training method, but the video captures a very relatable moment between two dogs learning how to share a home.

When a new puppy arrives, it’s important for owners to supervise interactions and give the resident dog opportunities to enjoy valuable toys and chews without being constantly interrupted.

Teaching puppies to trade objects for treats or another toy can also help prevent unwanted resource-guarding conflicts.

For Ruby and Pearl, this particular sibling disagreement ended with something that looked more funny than serious.

Ruby got her point across.

Pearl got a very unexpected lesson.

And Mom got a video that will probably never stop being funny.

Because sometimes, older siblings don’t need a long speech.

They just need one perfectly timed move.

Pearl wanted Ruby’s toys. Ruby decided Pearl could have a seat instead.
