Most dogs have a pretty simple idea of what should happen when their humans walk out the front door: They should come back.
Apparently, one determined pup decided that waiting patiently was not an option.
When his owner left the house for just one hour, the dog was left behind a closed door.
By the time his human returned, there was a surprising new feature in the house—a hole chewed through the bottom of the door.
And judging by the size of it, this wasn’t exactly a quick little nibble.
The determined dog had apparently spent much of that 60-minute window working on his escape plan, chewing away at the bottom of the door until he had created an opening nearly large enough to squeeze through.
It was the kind of discovery that leaves a person standing there wondering what on earth happened while they were gone.
The dog, meanwhile, seemed far less concerned about the destruction around him.
His mission appeared to be simple: Find his human.

One Hour Was Apparently Long Enough
For some dogs, being left alone can be difficult. They may pace, whine, bark, or look for ways to keep themselves occupied.
This pup took the concept of keeping busy to an entirely different level.
Instead of simply waiting for his owner to return, he apparently decided the obstacle between them needed to disappear.
And so began his one-dog renovation project.
By the time his owner walked back through the house, the evidence was impossible to miss. The bottom portion of the door had been transformed into an escape hatch, complete with a very determined dog nearby.
The funniest part may have been the sheer disbelief of his owner upon seeing what had happened.
After all, you leave your dog alone for an hour expecting to return to the same house you left.
You don’t necessarily expect your dog to have started construction.
The Internet Had Plenty to Say
Once people saw what the clever—and slightly destructive—dog had managed to accomplish, they couldn’t resist joking about his determination.
Some commenters imagined the pup’s thought process as something along the lines of, “A door? That’s not going to stop me.”
Others joked that leaving him alone for even longer might result in an even bigger renovation project.
And honestly, looking at the size of the opening, it’s easy to imagine this dog proudly thinking he’d solved the problem.
Of course, the incident is also a reminder that dogs who struggle when left alone can sometimes get themselves into trouble.
Chewing doors, walls, furniture, or other objects can be dangerous, especially if a dog swallows pieces of material or injures their mouth.
For this particular pup, however, the biggest surprise was just how quickly he went from waiting for his human to taking matters into his own paws.
A Dog With One Very Clear Goal
There was no complicated mystery behind the destruction.
His human left.
His human was gone.
There was a door in the way.
So the dog did what he apparently believed had to be done.
He made his own door.
After only an hour, this determined pup had managed to turn separation into a full-blown home improvement project—and left his owner with a story that’s probably going to be remembered for a very long time.
Because when your dog loves you enough to chew through a door just to find you, there’s really no question about how badly he wanted you to come home.
Just maybe keep an eye on the doors next time you leave.
