Walk into the Lompoc Animal Center and there’s a good chance you’ll meet a dog who wants exactly what so many shelter dogs want.

A person to love.

A family to belong to.

A place to finally call home.

Her name is Topanga.

She’s a 2-year-old American Bulldog and Pit Bull Terrier mix weighing about 58 pounds—and shelter staff say she’s quickly becoming a star.

Why?

Because Topanga loves people.

She thrives on attention.

She enjoys going for walks.

And she does exceptionally well on a leash.

In other words, this isn’t a dog hiding from the world.

Topanga wants to be part of it.

She wants someone to take her for walks, give her attention, and let her be the happy, affectionate companion she clearly wants to be.

Staff also believe she could be a good candidate for a home with another dog, giving her even more opportunity to become part of a family pack.

But here’s the part that matters most.

Topanga is still waiting.

And every day she waits is another day she doesn’t get to experience the simple things dogs love most:

A cozy bed.

A familiar voice.

A backyard.

A favorite walking route.

Someone who calls her name because they’re happy she’s there.

The Lompoc Animal Center is located at 1501 West Central in Lompoc, California. Topanga is available for adoption, with fees covering spaying, microchipping, vaccinations, flea treatment, and a health and wellness exam.

Maybe Topanga isn’t waiting for just anyone.

Maybe she’s waiting for her person.

The person who walks into the shelter, looks into those eyes, and says:

“Yep. That’s my dog.”

And just like that…

Topanga’s waiting could finally be over.
