Butter likes his space.
Most of the time, he’d rather patrol the fence, keep an eye on things and enjoy his own company.
He’s not exactly the neighborhood social butterfly.
And apparently, that’s perfectly fine with him.
But then there’s Joon Poonie.
Joon is different.
Very different.
She’s the one dog who can make Butter completely forget about his usual preference for solitude.
In fact, the moment Butter finds out Joon is coming over, something remarkable happens.
He starts howling.
Not a little whine.
Not one quick bark.
A full-blown serenade.
His family captured the adorable reaction on video, and it’s immediately obvious that Butter knows exactly what the news means.
Joon is coming.
His girlfriend is coming.
And apparently, he has a lot to say about it.
Butter is a Great Pyrenees-Husky mix, and his human says he’s happiest when he’s left alone to patrol the fence.
Joon isn’t particularly interested in making friends with every dog she meets, either.
She can get annoyed with other dogs.
So, on paper, these two don’t sound like the obvious candidates for a great friendship.
But dogs don’t always follow the rules humans expect.
Somehow, Butter and Joon found each other.
And when they’re together, all those usual preferences seem to disappear.
Butter becomes affectionate.
Excited.
Almost completely obsessed with seeing his favorite girl.
His family even has a hilarious little tradition.
Before Joon arrives, they send her family videos of Butter howling so Joon can hear her boyfriend “singing” for her.
It’s basically a canine version of a pre-date message.
“I’m coming over.”
“I know.”
“I missed you.”
“Awoo!”
And somehow, that’s exactly what it feels like.
The sweetest part is that neither dog seems to need a crowd.
They don’t have to be everyone’s best friend.
They don’t have to greet every dog at the park.
They simply found one another.
And that’s enough.
Butter’s human says he’s becoming more affectionate as he gets older, but Joon clearly holds a special place in his heart.
She even has her own little “awoo.”
So when these two get together, their conversations can apparently become quite musical.
It might look funny to humans.
But there’s something genuinely sweet about watching two dogs choose each other.
Dogs don’t need to be universally social to form meaningful bonds.
Some are selective.
Some prefer familiar companions.
Some are happiest with a small circle.
And sometimes, that circle contains exactly one very special friend.
For Butter, that friend is Joon.
He can spend hours patrolling the property.
He can happily enjoy his own space.
But the moment he hears that Joon is coming?
Everything changes.
The fence can wait.
The solitude can wait.
Because his favorite girl is on her way.
And Butter has a song ready for her.
Maybe that’s the thing people sometimes misunderstand about dogs.
They don’t have to love everyone.
They just need someone who makes their tail wag a little harder.
Someone whose arrival changes the whole mood of the day.
Someone worth making a little noise about.
For Butter, Joon is clearly that dog.
He may prefer being alone, but when his favorite girl comes around, Butter suddenly has a whole lot to say.
