Trixie is the kind of dog who can break your heart without making a sound.
She’s three years old.
She’s a beautiful black-and-tan German Shepherd.
And right now, she’s waiting inside the Lompoc Animal Center for someone to notice her.
But there’s a problem.
Shelter life is getting to her.
Trixie is experiencing anxiety in the shelter, and what she needs most isn’t complicated.
She needs out.
She needs a quiet place.
She needs someone willing to give her the time and patience to relax and feel safe again.
At roughly 68 pounds, Trixie is certainly not a little dog.
But here’s something worth remembering:
Big dogs can have big hearts, too.
And sometimes, the dogs who look the strongest from the outside are the ones who need someone to step up for them.
Trixie is available for both fostering and adoption.
A foster home could give her something the shelter simply can’t provide—a chance to decompress, settle into a routine, and experience what it feels like to be part of a home.
And if the right person comes along?
Maybe that temporary stay becomes forever.
Trixie’s adoption package includes spaying, microchipping, vaccinations, flea treatment, and a health and wellness examination.
But what Trixie really needs can’t be put inside an adoption package.
She needs someone who sees beyond the kennel.
Someone who looks at a nervous dog and thinks:
“I can give her a chance.”
Because sometimes, that’s all it takes.
One person.
One open door.
One quiet home.
And suddenly, a dog who was struggling becomes a dog who knows she’s finally safe.
Trixie is still waiting.
Maybe the person she’s been waiting for is you.
