For more than a year, Rocky lived in a backyard, forgotten and struggling to survive.
The beautiful Husky who should have been enjoying walks, affection and adventures was instead losing his fur, his weight and his strength.

A Dog Left Behind
Rocky’s troubles began after his owner passed away. Instead of finding a loving new home, the dog was left in a Texas backyard, receiving only the bare necessities to survive.
As the weeks turned into months, his condition deteriorated.
His thick Husky coat began disappearing. His body grew painfully thin, and his health suffered from prolonged neglect.
When Mutts N Such Rescue learned about Rocky’s situation, the organization discovered that he was dealing with several serious medical problems, including mange, flea allergy dermatitis, intestinal parasites, a heart murmur and heartworm disease.
The once-handsome dog desperately needed veterinary care, proper nutrition and somewhere safe to recover.
Thankfully, rescuers refused to look away.
One Foster Home Changed Everything
Mutts N Such Rescue partnered with Best Friends Animal Society through its Foster Forward Challenge, a program designed to help rescue organizations expand their foster networks and save more animals.
The initiative helped the rescue find an emergency foster home for Rocky.
That was when Ashley Buchart stepped forward.
Buchart, who lives in Fort Worth, Texas, offered her apartment as a safe place for the struggling Husky to land.
She picked him up and immediately began preparing for his arrival, visiting Petco to purchase the essentials he needed.
Her original plan was straightforward: foster Rocky while he received medical treatment and regained his strength, then help him find a permanent home.
But Rocky had other plans.
The Dog Behind the Suffering
As Rocky settled into his new surroundings, Buchart began discovering the personality that had been hidden beneath his painful past.
He was sweet, affectionate, cuddly and remarkably intelligent.
Despite everything he had endured, Rocky still had plenty of love to give.
The more time they spent together, the harder it became for Buchart to imagine saying goodbye.
She realized that she could provide exactly what Rocky needed: a secure home, consistent care and someone who would never abandon him.
Her temporary foster arrangement became permanent.
Rocky had finally found his person.
An Incredible Transformation
Just two months after leaving the backyard, Rocky’s life looked completely different.
His fur had grown back, and he had tested negative for his intestinal parasites. He was also making progress through a carefully managed heartworm treatment.
According to Buchart, the change was like night and day.
Instead of struggling to stand on his back legs, Rocky was now happy, energetic and eager to explore.
For the first time in a long while, he was getting to experience the kind of life every dog deserves.
He even discovered a few new favorite activities.
Buchart took him on an adventure to a cabin near the water, where Rocky enjoyed hiking, swimming and kayaking.
Imagine the difference: a dog who once spent his days confined to a backyard was now exploring the outdoors with someone who genuinely cared about him.
Every Dog Deserves a Chance
Rocky’s story is a powerful reminder of what fostering can accomplish.
Not every person can adopt another animal permanently. But offering a temporary home can give a neglected dog the time and safety needed to heal while a rescue searches for the right family.
For Rocky, that temporary home became his forever home.
Buchart fell in love with the dog others might have overlooked, and Rocky finally found the security he had been missing.
He spent over a year waiting for his life to change.
Now, he’s enjoying adventures, affection and the simple comfort of knowing he belongs.
